about

These audio files accompany the book "Five Etudes for 5-string Banjo", I will send you the PDF with the purchase.

“Lluís has such a musical approach to the banjo and this book is no exception. The etudes are impressively concise, and the fundamentals of modern five string banjo playing are present and clear.”
Wes Corbett

Congratulations on taking this big step to rounding out your musicianship. Awaiting within these pages is a repertoire of beautiful old melodies with many many new ideas on how to play them. Although this is not bluegrass, you can consider these timeless pieces as pure folk music.

In the words of the great jazz educator, Hal Galper, “All practice is global.” Spending time learning these arrangements will serve to enhance your musicianship and techniques. Focusing on tone, timing, touch and phrasing — are essential to making a powerful statement in music. By learning these melodies, you can work on your tone, the internal harmony, and highlighting the different lines, as well as controlling the dynamics and double-stops, this is time well spent no matter what genre of music you prefer.

We all understand why, for numerous reasons, a jazz pianist might study Bach. There is the same value to be obtained by exploring these melodies. Capturing these arrangements requires a variety of right-hand and left-hand techniques that will easily turn your bluegrass banjo sensibilities on their head.
Yet mastering these will open up countless other possibilities.
Enjoy the musical adventures ahead.

This Etude Book and its Purpose
The purpose of this book is to improve your skills, learn some new music and write your own exercises and Etudes, no matter what your level may be.

These are short pieces of only just one page (except number 5).
I really like pieces that are not very long, as they are easier to learn and memorize.
